A midwife suffered an injury when she slipped over on liquid in theatre has been awarded £12,500 with support from the Royal College of Midwives (RCM).
The member, who works for a London trust, was hurt in the incident in August 2022. The trust’s insurers refused to negotiate a settlement. As a result, the member accessed RCM legal services and was supported throughout by Thompson’s solicitors, who acted on her behalf.
Lynn Collins, RCM Director of Representation and Organising, said: “Cases like this show the value of being part of a union like the RCM which has a legal service – we will support our members with legal advice and representation, without the fear of a huge bill for legal fees.
“We’re really pleased that we were able to help our member receive these damages, without any cost for legal fees, after an incident which shouldn’t have happened in the workplace. We hope the outcome will also support workplace health and safety representatives in ensuring lessons are learned and similar incidents are prevented in the future.”
