Dr Suzanne Crozier

Dr Suzanne Crozier is a senior midwifery academic, educator and quality‑assurance specialist whose career spans more than three decades of leadership across higher education, professional regulation and clinical practice. Based in the North East of England, she currently provides Education Quality Assurance consultancy to York St John University, following her recent tenure as Associate Professor of Midwifery and Head of Teaching and Learning at Edinburgh Napier University, where she now holds an honorary visiting role. During her time at Edinburgh Napier Suzanne led the development of a post graduate shortened midwifery programme which provided an innovative response to meeting the workforce needs of remote and rural health boards across Scotland.

Suzanne’s career is defined by sustained contributions to the advancement of midwifery education. She has held a series of senior academic leadership posts at Northumbria University, including Lead Midwife for Education andĀ Faculty Director of Review and Approvals. Earlier roles as Principal Lecturer, Senior Lecturer and Midwife Teacher reflect her long-standing commitment to developing high‑quality learning environments for both undergraduate and postgraduate students.

Her influence extends nationally through extensive quality‑assurance and regulatory work. She was nominated to represent midwifery education in the development of the NMC Standards Framework for Nursing and Midwifery Education and laterĀ served as Lead Nurse and Midwife for Education Quality Assurance at the Nursing and Midwifery Council. SuzanneĀ has been a long‑standing reviewer for the NMC via their contract withĀ Mott MacDonald and contributed to the approval and monitoring of professional and academic standards via this role and as an external panel member for universities across England.Ā In 2019 she was selected by the Office for Students as the nursing and midwifery subject specialist reviewer for the Teaching Excellence Framework (TEF) Pilot 4. Currently she contributes to the Quality Assurance Agency as a Tertiary Quality Enhancement Reviewer in Scotland and sits on the QAA Nursing and Midwifery Contract Advisory Committee.

Suzanne’s academic work focuses on midwifery identity, personalised care, interprofessional learning and the evaluation of innovative educational models. She has published in peer reviewed journals, contributed to leading midwifery textbooks, and presented widely at national and international conferences. Suzanne holds a Doctorate in Business Administration, an MSc in Health Sciences, ILM Level 7 Coaching and Mentoring qualification, and is a Senior Fellow of Advance HE. A registered nurse and midwife, she continues through various roles and consultancy activities to champion professional excellence, quality and innovation in midwifery education.
