We are pleased to announce that the nominations for student midwife elections to the RCM Student Midwife Forum (SMF) are open!

The SMF is there for student midwives and to be a voice for all student midwives. The elected members speak for you at national level and work with staff at the RCM when it comes to advocating for you.

This year the SMF have the following seats available for election:
2 in Scotland
1 in Wales
2 in England North
2 in London
2 in England Midlands and East
1 in England South

The SMF recognise that to truly represent student midwives from all over the UK, they themselves need to be a diverse and inclusive forum. To ensure they have a diverse forum, they are especially interested in receiving applicants from sections of the community which are currently underrepresented within the forum, including applicants who identify as Black, Asian & Ethnic heritage.

In addition to this the SMF would also like to appoint two of its elected members as Race Matters and Equality, Diversity & Inclusion champions. If Race, Equality, Diversity and Inclusion are areas of midwifery that you would like to help the RCM and the SMF improve on, please include this in your application.

This year we are asking students to submit their manifesto in a short video format (between 3-5 minutes) explaining why they would like a seat on the SMF and what they can offer to the RCM. This can be recorded on your mobile phone and emailed to SMF@rcm.org.uk.

The deadline for all submissions is Monday November 7, 2022. The video clips will be reviewed by a panel and successful candidates will be notified by the end of November.
