Surrogacy

Course Access: Lifetime
Course Overview

How do people go about finding and arranging for a surrogate to carry a child for them?

Assisted reproductive technology has generated a range of family building possibilities, not only for infertile couples but also for non-heterosexual people whose parenting choices were previously limited. Technological developments, allowing an extra ‘third-party’ contribution to conception or gestation, has resulted in more people using surrogacy arrangements to become parents.

By the end of this i-learn module on surrogacy you will have:
•    learned about the different forms of surrogacy
•    knowledge of the UK legal position on surrogacy
•    understanding of the current requirements for intended parents (IPs) to gain legal parentage of the child
•    familiarised yourself with the stages of a surrogacy journey

More specifically you will have reflected on the importance of responding flexibly to facilitate a safe, positive and rewarding experience for both surrogates and IPs.

Study time: 30 minutes (more if you explore the longer real-life personal stories)
