Appreciating dyslexia
This i-learn module will introduce midwives and support workers to neurodiverse conditions, with a particular focus on the very complex condition of dyslexia which is estimated to affect 1 in 10 people in the UK (6.3 million people) to some degree with 4% of those having a severe form.
The module will help in understanding how a person with dyslexia may feel and the barriers that they may face in the workplace and will look to raise awareness of the positive aspects of dyslexia and the possible strengths a person with dyslexia may possess.
After completing this module you should to be able to:
- describe dyslexia and other neurodiverse conditions
- have an understanding of how a person with dyslexia may feel and the barriers that they may face in the workplace
- provide basic guidance in supporting a colleague with possible dyslexia
- have an understanding of the positive aspects of dyslexia and the possible strengths a dyslexic person may possess
- know where to signpost colleagues with possible dyslexia to appropriate resources and further support
