Overview

This is an insightful and practical webinar, focusing on the crucial topic of iron deficiency anaemia in pregnancy. This session will explore how this common condition can affect both mothers and babies, what it feels like for pregnant women, and how it can be effectively identified, managed, and treated.

We’ll cover the physiological changes in pregnancy that increase iron demands, the clinical signs and symptoms to look for, and the potential risks if anaemia is left untreated. We’ll also discuss preventative and treatment options, including dietary advice, iron supplementation, and when to escalate care.

Sima Farhadi, Consultant Midwife Midwifery-Led Care Barking, Havering And Redbridge University Hospitals NHS Trust

Sima is Consultant Midwife for Midwifery-Led Care at Barking, Havering, and Redbridge University Hospitals NHS Trust, with responsibility for Queen’s Birth Centre, community midwifery, homebirth, and specialist clinics including the Perinatal Pelvic Health Service. A dual-trained nurse and midwife with an MSc in Advanced Midwifery Practice, she has complemented her role with training in senior leadership, Professional Midwifery Advocacy, Non-Medical Prescribing, and project management. Sima is dedicated to driving quality improvement and delivering safe, compassionate, and personalised maternity care.
