Professional Advisor, Midwife (Education and Career Development)

Caitlin’s career is grounded in a commitment to equity, relational care and compassionate leadership. She is dedicated to strengthening the conditions in which midwives can thrive and in which women and families experience safe, personalised and respectful maternity care.

Caitlin Wilson is a Consultant Midwife and Professional Advisor at the Royal College of Midwives, recognised for her national leadership in continuity of carer, personalised care and midwifery leadership development. She works across clinical, academic and strategic spheres to strengthen safe, relational and evidence‑informed maternity care. 

Caitlin has led significant service developments across two trusts, including the opening of two midwifery‑led birth centres and the re‑opening of a further centre, widening access to high‑quality midwife‑led care for diverse communities. She has also established one of England’s most sustainably embedded continuity of carer models, shaping approaches that have informed regional and national practice. 

At the RCM, she leads the UK‑wide Leadership Programmes and contributes nationally through the refreshed RCM Career Pathway resource. Programmes consistently demonstrate long‑term impact on confidence, capability and leadership progression across the profession. 

An active clinical academic, Caitlin is a PhD candidate researching continuity of carer with a focus on new graduates, education, leadership and sustainability. She has published and presented nationally and internationally on continuity, leadership, consultant midwives and experiences of women, families. She also contributes to the profession through her role on the MIDIRS Editorial Board, supporting high‑quality dissemination of evidence and practice.
