Course Overview

This module is no longer available.

Supporting parents in preventing non-accidental head injury is designed to help you to understand more about non-accidental head injuries in babies, and how you can support parents to cope with crying and reduce the risk that babies will be harmed.

Many parents will, at some point, struggle to cope with their babiesā€™ crying. Evidence shows that in extreme cases, crying can lead to parents feeling tempted to, or actually abusing their babies.

When babies are shaken, hit or thrown, this can lead to serious head injuries. Many babies die as a result of these injuries, and infants who survive often experience significant long term disabilities.

Study time: 1.5 hours.
