Course Overview

This course aims to develop awareness, knowledge and understanding of the importance of providing parent-led, sensitive and empathic care for parents whose baby dies before, during or shortly  after birth. It is not intended to replace face-to-face training which facilitates the development of skills in this important area of care.

On completing this i-learn module you will:

  • Identify the unique impact of grief in relation to pregnancy loss and the death of a baby for parents and their families
  • Develop and use techniques to deliver bad news and communicate sensitively and effectively with bereaved parents
  • Understand of the importance of empathetic care
  • Learn how to support parents’ decision-making during times of stress
  • Understand the importance of parent-led care
  • Recognise the impact of pregnancy loss and the death of a baby on health professionals
  • Recognise the importance of on-going support for bereaved parents and the potential impact of their loss on all subsequent pregnancies
