Ankyloglossia or tongue-tie is a congenital oral anomaly. This module will provide a basic knowledge of tongue-tie, its impact on the mother and baby relationship and feeding, and its management and treatment.
By the end of this short module you will be able to:
- List the problems tight lingual frenulum may cause in infant feeding
- Describe the process of examining for tight lingual frenulum
- Be aware of the referral pathways and use them appropriately
- Explain the procedure for tongue-tie division to a parent using evidence based knowledge
- Be compassionate in caring for tongue-tied infants and their mothers
