The Royal College of Midwives (RCM) provides advice, assistance and representation for members in relation to employment and regulatory matters. As a condition of assistance, you must sign this agreement and return it to us.
Advice, assistance and representation will be provided by RCM local representatives or regional or national officers. You will be told the name and contact details of your representative. Sometimes work needs to be reallocated within the RCM. You will be advised of any change in your representation.
Your case
Representation is conditional on returning your signed agreement and will not commence until this is returned
The RCM will provide advice, assistance and representation for you in relation your employment and / or regulatory matter and will agree a case plan with you at the outset of your representation.
Conditions of assistance
- You were at the time of the issue for which you seek advice, assistance or representation a member of the RCM in the appropriate membership category, and your subscription is fully paid up, and you will maintain your membership throughout your case.
- The RCM is unable to help you if you have been advised on the same matter by another trade union or are receiving third party advice on your case. The RCM is unable to help you if you seek separate legal advice. Please be aware that the RCM will not reimburse any legal fees you incur without the authority of the RCM.
- You agree to cooperate with your RCM representative by being honest and truthful with them and follow their advice.
- You will provide your RCM representative with all the documents you have when you first seek advice and any additional documents as they become available to you.
- You will inform your RCM representative immediately should your circumstances change or new information comes to light.
- You will treat your RCM representative with dignity and respect.
- You will keep your membership details including contact information up to date

Failure to comply with the conditions of assistance may result in representation being withdrawn.
What you can expect from the RCM
- We will provide you with advice, support and where appropriate representation on the matters covered by this agreement.
- We will prepare a case plan with you and agree any reasonable adjustments you may require
- Our local representatives and officers will treat you with dignity and respect when handling your case
- We reserve the right to use anonymised details of your case and its outcome in publicity, case studies and learning materials
