The Royal College of Midwives (RCM) has welcomed the appointment of Kate Brintworth – currently Chief Midwifery Officer for London – as England’s new Chief Midwifery Officer.

Kate is a former employee of the RCM and was its Head of Maternity Transformation between 2019 and 2020. To add to this latest achievement, today Kate received the prestigious RCM Equity, Diversity and Inclusion Award at the College’s annual awards in London.

Gill Walton CBE, Chief Executive of the Royal College of Midwives, said of Kate’s appointment: “I am delighted to welcome Kate into her new role as Chief Midwifery Officer at NHS England. I had the privilege of working with her at the RCM, and if her contribution to our strategic work is anything to go by, she will be a dynamic force for good for midwifery and maternity care in England.

“I also want to say a huge thank you to Jacque Dunkley-Bent, and her wider team, for the important work she has done in the role as our very first Chief Midwifery Officer. I wish her well as she moves into a new role on the international midwifery stage.”
