Ruth Sanders

I am an Associate Professor of Midwifery at the University of East Anglia (UEA) where I run the undergraduate Research for Innovation midwifery module. My research activity includes leading the Early Career Research Club and the interdisciplinary Women’s Health Network at UEA, as well as being a core member of the East of England Midwifery Research Network (https://www.midwiferyresearcheast.org.uk/network/).

I have a background in creative arts and cultural studies / social science prior to my midwifery career and am currently in the final stages of my professional doctorate. My topics of interest include reflective practice, midwifery education, decision-making, advanced practice, behaviour change, pain management and midwife-led research.

I have experience in qualitative research methods and arts-based research including reflexive thematic analysis, focus group facilitation, interview technique, observation and literature reviewing. I enjoy writing for midwifery journals and am a regular peer reviewer. I have supervised midwives and healthcare students completing masters degrees and doctoral study and am passionate about making research accessible for midwives and the wider maternity team.
