The Royal College of Midwives (RCM) has today welcomed a whole new cohort of students to the midwifery community, with thousands finding out they have a place at university thanks to today’s A-level results and last week’s Highers.
Since results were published this morning, universities have been confirming places for aspiring midwives across the UK. Students will be joining the profession at a critical and rewarding time – and we pledge to support them from their first day of study and throughout their careers.
Heather Bower, the RCM’s Head of Midwifery Education, said:
“To every future midwifery student opening their results today and securing their place on their chosen course – congratulations. You’re taking your first steps into a profession that changes lives every day. This is a critical yet rewarding time to be joining the midwifery profession – the profession needs a steady flow of new midwives to maintain safe and high quality care.
“We know it can feel daunting but the RCM is here to support you, from the moment you start your course, to the day you get your first job and throughout your career. We want every midwifery student to feel supported from day one.”
On Monday, the Government announced funding will be unlocked to get hundreds of newly qualified midwives into their first jobs – a move welcomed by the RCM.
