The Royal College of Midwives (RCM) is deeply saddened to hear of the death of Professor Tim Draycott, former Vice President of the Royal College of Obstetricians & Gynaecologists.

Professor Draycott was a passionate advocate for safer maternity care and a valued friend to the midwifery community. His pioneering work has had a profound and lasting impact on maternity services across the UK and internationally.

Gill Walton, RCM Chief Executive, said: “Tim was a good friend to the RCM and to the wider midwifery community and will be truly missed by all of us. His determination to create safer maternity care is his legacy, including the PROMPT programme and the Avoiding Brain Injury in Childbirth initiative.

“Through this work, Tim saved many lives and his work will continue to make a huge difference. His commitment to multi-professional team training and his collaborative approach to improving outcomes for women and babies has left an enduring mark on maternity care.”

The RCM extends its deepest condolences to Professor Draycott’s family, friends and colleagues at this difficult time.
