The Royal College of Midwives (RCM) Cymru is supporting this year’s TUC Cymru Black History Month event – Celebrating our past and protecting our future – highlighting how midwifery and maternity services are helping to deliver the Welsh Government’s Anti-Racism Action Plan.
RCM Cymru Maternity Inclusive chairman Jamie Morris will take to the stage at the event, on Thursday 23 October, to recognising the achievements and ongoing work to improve equity in maternity services across Wales, while calling for continued action to ensure every woman and family receives safe, compassionate, and culturally responsive support.
RCM Fellow Nerys Kirtley, a lecturer in midwifery at Cardiff University, will also be representing RCM Cymru at the event, which is taking place at the Pierhead Building in Cardiff.
Nerys said: “As an RCM Fellow, it is a genuine privilege to support this vital event that amplifies the need to improve the maternity experience for Black, Asian, and other minority ethnic women and their families. Their voices and lived experiences must be central to maternity care.
“The progress made so far is both inspiring and impactful – enhancing the quality of care and paving the way for better outcomes across communities. I’m proud to stand alongside those driving this change forward. It is also a wonderful opportunity for Cardiff midwifery students to witness and be part of such an empowering and transformative event.
“We’re proud to be part of the conversation and to support our colleagues who are representing RCM Cymru on the day.”
