Today the Royal College of Midwives (RCM) has today launched a pay consultation with its Agenda for Change (AfC) members in  England, Wales and Northern Ireland.

The College is urging all members across all three nations to have their say on the recent 3.6% pay award as it wants to hear how midwives and maternity support workers feel about the 2025-26 pay award.

Commenting, the RCM’s Director for Employment Relations, Joanne Kaye, said:

“It’s crucial we hear the views of every member in each of the three nations to inform the next steps of our pay campaign. So, we are urging everyone that is eligible to vote to respond to our consultation without delay. We know how hard our members work, day in day out and this pay award is the very least they deserve. While it’s good that the Government moved on from their earlier position of a lower award, we know that members will be disappointed that the 3.6% barely covers an inflationary rise. That is why we want to gauge their feelings of all on this pay award.”

All eligible members will have received a direct email today with a link to the RCM’s consultation survey. If you haven’t you can still have your say by visiting your nations pay page on the RCM’s website here . The RCM’s consultation will run for three weeks closing at midnight on 8 July.

The RCM has compiled FAQs for members to answer any questions they may have ahead of voting, and they can be viewed here

The pay award will also mean something different to each of its members says RCM.  You can read more about what the percentage increase would ultimately mean for each pay band here

Joanne added:

“Because this is a pay award that will be implemented automatically, we aren’t asking members to vote to accept or reject this, but we are asking midwives and MSWs if they find the award ‘acceptable’ or ‘unacceptable’. As ever we will be led the views of our members in any next steps.”

The RCM says any members who are not currently receiving emails from the RCM should check their contact details and preferences are up to date immediately, which can be done quickly by logging on to its website here.
