Four new midwives have been elected to join the Royal College of Midwives (RCM) Board. Announcing the new Board members the RCM has thanked its members for voting in the recent election.
The RCM Board is responsible for the overall direction and setting the strategic objectives of the RCM and is made up entirely of RCM members.
The new Board members; Wendy Matthews, Wanda Warrington, Bridget Dack and Carla Jones-Charles will take up their new roles from 1 September alongside Benedicta Agabgwara-Osuji who has been re-elected to serve another term.
The new members will form the new board and will join the existing board members Barbara Kuypers (RCM Board Chair) Melissa Davis (Vice Chair), Cher Dougan, Yana Richens, Shani Woodbridge, Angharad Oyler and Declan Symington.
Commenting, Chair of the RCM Board, Barbara Kuypers said:
“How exciting to have 4 new Board Members, Wendy Matthews, Bridget Dack, Wanda Warrington and Carla Jones-Charles join us in September and the return of Bennie Agbagwara-Osuji too.
“Thank you to everyone who participated in the ballot. What a good representation across the midwifery community, bringing those assets and expertise to the future Board. Bennie and Carla bring their service leadership experience, Wendy her knowledge of strategic function at regional and national level, Bridget her experience in analytical informatics and governance and Wanda with her clinical expertise which she shares as a visiting lecturer for midwifery students and also in her role as a humanitarian practitioner at home and overseas.”
The Board members who have come to the end of their terms are Dee Davies, Sarah Jones and Nerys Kirtley. Hannah Leonard withdrew from the process after ballot packs had been sent to members, having been appointed as the College’s new Chief Policy Officer [link]. Her votes were redistributed, according to the transferable vote system used by Civica, who administer elections for the College.
Commenting, the RCM’s Chief Operating Officer, Chris Truman said:
“Becoming a new RCM Board member is a big commitment, but it’s a vital role in the College, ensuring that we remain true to our strategic goals. I’d like to thank Dee, Sarah and Nerys for their dedication and valuable contribution during their terms. We wish them all the very best for the future.”
