Women affected by forced marriage
This i-learn module on Forced Marriage (FM) provides an understanding of the problem and its scale within the wider context of honour based abuse and violence against women and girls in the UK. It provides information on understanding and identifying the differences between FM and arranged marriage together with the motivation for FM and how it presents.
The module will help to identify the safeguarding responsibilities of midwives and support workers, practical steps to protect victims, potential victims and the unborn child as well as referral pathways. This will include and awareness of the law, identifiable signs and symptoms of FM and the important ‘one chance’ rule. It will also develop confidence in handling victims in a clinical setting who may have experienced FM and other serious crimes and abuses associated with it such as rape or modern slavery.
