Overview

The webinar will explore the topic of physical activity (PA) in pregnancy and ways to increase knowledge and confidence on the subject. The webinar is hosted by the SMF and is open to all to attend.

Areas to be covered include:

  • The benefits of physical activity in pregnancy.
  • PA levels in pregnancy and the current national PA guidelines for pregnancy
  • The available evidence-based resources available

Speakers

Dr Medbh Hillyard, Queen’s University Belfast and Active Pregnancy Foundation

Dr Lou Atkinson is a behavioural scientist and exercise professional, with a career spanning over 25 years across Public Health, Fitness, Academia, and MedTech. Her research and practice focus on the psychosocial determinants of health behaviours, and developing interventions to reduce disease burden and address health inequalities. She has dedicated her career to building, disseminating and applying the scientific and translational evidence needed to create real-world change in physical activity, obesity, chronic conditions and women’s health. Lou’s PhD focused on engagement in weight management behaviours and services during and after pregnancy, from the perspective of women and health professionals. Lou has advised multiple charities on supporting women to be active in the perinatal period, and has been a member of the Active Pregnancy Foundation’s Scientific Advisory Board since its inception in 2020. Lou is a certified pre- and post-natal exercise instructor and a trainer for the This Mum Moves programme.
