Abstract

Welcome to the third 40th anniversary edition of MIDIRS Midwifery Digest.

To start with, a trip down memory lane…

Many readers will remember the Informed choice leaflets that MIDIRS and the NHS Centre for Reviews and Dissemination (NHS CRD) were commissioned to develop back in 1994. They followed findings from a government report emphasising the need for women to be provided with necessary information to enable them to make informed choices about their care. ‘MIDIRS and Informed Choice’ (p.227) gives a summary of the initiative, an evaluation of the effectiveness and looks at where we are now. Today, are we any further in facilitating informed choice within midwifery and maternity care?
