My name is Li Li, a Mandarin Chinese interpreter and translator and a Consortium for the Humanities and the Arts South-east England (CHASE)-funded collaborative doctoral research student at the University of East Anglia. My PhD project is entitled: Language Quality in Maternity (REC Ref. 20/WA/0129), in collaboration with the Language Shop (TLS).

My research aims to investigate the most effective use of interpreting modalities, i.e., face-to-face interpreting (F2F), telephone interpreting (TI) or video-mediated interpreting (VMI) in maternity settings where healthcare providers and users do not share the same spoken language in the UK. Although COVID-19 might have provided great opportunities for using VMI, very little is known about it in maternity settings. Your contribution will shape future VMI service provision in the UK.

If you need interpreting or translation services to care for pregnant women/birthing people from culturally and linguistically diverse (CALD) communities in the UK, I would be very grateful for your help in my PhD study.

II: An (online) interview. The interview may last up to one hour and can be conducted in-person, via telephone or MS Teams.
