The International Confederation of Midwives (ICM), in partnership with Direct Relief, have announced the launch of a new open-access platform, built to make data about midwives and the midwifery profession accessible.
Described as being “built on the legacy of the Global Midwives’ Hub” – a digital data resource for midwives launched by the same organisations in 2021 – this new platform, titled the ‘Midwives’ Data Hub‘, aims to be more user-friendly than its predecessor. The ICM says it has listened to feedback from users worldwide to create a site that is “more intuitive, more adaptable, and designed with users in mind”.
The Midwives’ Data Hub will contain data from over 50 trusted sources, including organisations like the World Health Organisation, UN agencies and global research institutions. It aims to be a platform where midwives can explore, interact with and compare data to use as evidence in supporting stronger midwifery services. On the site, users will be able to compare midwifery-specific data with other relevant information from the fields of sexual, reproductive, maternal, newborn and adolescent health.
The platform will be officially launched on the 22nd July 2025, in a global event that aims to bring together midwives, partners, policymakers and advocates to explore the platform. The ICM hopes this will be a day to celebrate the site’s “potential to strengthen midwifery and sexual reproductive health efforts by making data more accessible and actionable”.
