Join the RCM at London Pride 2022

on 09 June 2022 Midwives MSWs - Maternity Support Workers LGBT Pride Parade

On 2 July the Royal College of Midwives (RCM) will join the parade at London Pride 2022 and applications are now open for members to march with the RCM and celebrate LGBT+ Pride.

London Pride is the UK’s biggest, most diverse Pride, and one of the world’s biggest LGBT+ celebrations. The theme for 2022 is All Our Pride – celebrating the shared experience of LGBT+ people by uniting the collective past, present, and future of Pride from every corner of the LGBT+ community.

This year is particularly special as it follows a two year hiatus during the pandemic, and also marks the 50 year anniversary of the first London march.

RCM Equalities and Research Officer Kate Jones said: “The RCM will be marching to celebrate the victories made in the fight for LGBT+ rights over the past 50 years, and the role trade unions have played in advancing LGBT+ equality. From the 1976 NALGO strike, taken by union members to defend a gay member who had been victimised by their employer, to trade union opposition to Section 28 in the 1980s, to more recent TUC calls for marriage equality, trade unions have been vocal LGBT allies for half a century.

“As we look forward to the next 50 years, it is clear that there is still much work to do to support the LGBT+ community at work and in wider society. The RCM is committed to fighting for the rights of our LGBT+ members and working to end LGBT+ discrimination and harassment.”

March with the RCM in London Pride 2022 and join us in celebrating the advances made in LGBT+ rights, calling for greater progress, equality and justice for everyone.
