Overview

Midwives play an essential role in supporting women every day. In this webinar, we explore the experiences of two midwives as they share their insights from working in Sudan and a war-torn region of Ukraine. Shirley Stronge will present on Essential Life Saving Skills for Africa, (ELSSA): Teaching out of your comfort zone.

Speakers

Shirley Stronge,Ā Senior Education Manager,Ā HSC Clinical Education Centre

Shirley is from a wee town called Newtownards in Northern Ireland and qualified as a midwife in 2001 having previously worked as a registered nurse. At present Shirley works as a Senior Education Manager in the HSC Clinical Education Centre in Belfast , managing education programmes relating to women , children and public health. Prior to this role Shirley worked as a midwifery lecturer in Queens University Belfast , she has also Ā spent 6 years working as a midwife in Ekwendeni in the north of Ā Malawi Central Africa and has also worked in various HSC trusts in Northern Ireland . Since 2017 Shirley has also been involved in short term teaching trips to Juba South Sudan with a registered charity called ELSSA ( Essential Life Saving Skills for Africa).

Flexi retired Community Midwife, Nurse, University Lecturer and Humanitarian Aid Co-ordinator for Ukraine . Winner of the Channel 4 Who Cares Wins Best Midwife award . Innovator of successful programme Breaking the Cycle of repeat removal of babies .
