Overview

International Women’s Day 8 March is a global day celebrating the social, economic, cultural, and political achievements of women and also marks a call to action for accelerating women’s equality. #IWD2025  #AccelerateAction.

This webinar is to discuss and showcase the issues women in the asylum system face during their pregnancy, birth and postnatal period.  Developed as part of the Best for Baby Too improvement collaborative in Liverpool aimed at addressing heath inequalities for pregnant asylum seekers and their babies, this film centres the voices of women with lived experience in order to better understand the hidden challenges they face.  Exploring themes of fear, access and isolation, the women deliver their message with hope and humanity, empowering those watching to reflect on their own practice in order to influence change.

Why attend

  • To listen and learn from women with lived experience of childbirth in the asylum system
  • To understand how immigration status creates unique and hidden challenges to accessing maternity care
  • To spend some time reflecting on how we as midwives can offer individualised care to people in difficult circumstances
