Overview

This course is aimed at inspiring and empowering activists in branches to lead. It provides a step to progress from branch to RCM Board and from a local activist to national or regional officer.

This interactive course which runs over four days is for RCM activists, to help them to be the best that they can be in their role and increase confidence to explore ā€˜what elseā€™ they can achieve. If you are a RCM activist and you recognise your leadership strengths but would like to do more, you will find the course, challenging, inspiring and valuable for your career development.

Event objectivesĀ 

By the end of the event, participants will be able to:-

  • Understand the key issues impacting on the NHS nationally and locally.
  • Describe the challenges in maternity services in their Unit from the perspective of others.
  • Be conversant with leadership principles and be more confident in personal leadership skills.
  • Understand the impact of organisational culture on the organisation and on the individual.
  • Professionally challenge aspects of the service with which they are concerned.
  • Understand the role of the Activist in influencing practice and culture.
  • Engage fully in the creation of the future of their organisation.

To apply you will need to complete the application for and have a discussion with your National/Regional Officer or Organiser before submitting. Completed forms can be returned to wprtraining@rcm.org.uk

 

Criteria to to apply

  • All activists must have completed the data protection course on i-learn
  • Workplace representatives must have completed introductory training at least two years ago.
  • Workplace representatives must have attended at least one country or regional training day in the last 12 months .
  • Workplace representatives must have attended an activist conference within the last two years
  • Workplace representatives must have attended one or more of the following:
  • Specialist training course,Ā  Advanced training course,Ā Activist update session, attended Staffside, been a Rep at TUC/STUC conference
  • Branch officers & MSW advocates must have completed their specific modules on i-learn
  • Branch officers & MSW advocates Ā mustĀ  provide have held a branch event in the past 12 months.
  • Branch officersĀ  must have been held or booked their 2025 AGM

 

Key dates

  • All applicant notified of outcome week commencing 21 April 2025
  • Course welcome online meeting 1 October 2025
  • Course dates 3-6 November 2025
