The changing NHS
This module has been replaced by an updated version: The Changing NHS (2019).
This short module is intended as a brief introduction to the NHS and includes the history of the NHS and its current structures in England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland. It also discusses some major policy issues currently driving change in the NHS, and maternity services in particular.
It will help you to understand changes in your own workplace and organisation, and those taking place in the wider NHS. It will also give you a sense of how different parts of the UK are responding to the challenges they face.
This module will help you understand:
- the historical context of the NHS
- how the NHS is organised in the four countries
- how government policies affect health care, including maternity services
- major trends shaping the NHS
The course contains videos of between 2 and 13 minutes.
