Basic life support in maternity: support workers’ guide (Standard 12)
This module on basic life support provides a guide to support workers in their role in maternity. However anyone working within maternity services will find the content of interest. The module looks at maternal and baby resuscitation and should be read in conjunction with the Care Certificate Workbook Standard 12 – Basic Life Support.
This module will enable you to:
- develop an awareness of physiology of the circulatory system in relation to basic life support
- understand the physiological changes of pregnancy which impact on resuscitation
- understand the physiology of the newborn in relation to resuscitation
- understand how team working can influence outcomes in emergencies
By the end of this module you will be able to:
- demonstrate your understanding of the additional considerations when resuscitating a person who has collapsed and is a pregnant woman
- demonstrate your understanding of newborn resuscitation
- demonstrate your understanding of factors that may influence how teams work together
- understand your role within the multidisciplinary team in both scenarios
Contains two short videos with maximum running time of 5 minutes and one longer video of 13 minutes.
